WHAT IS SCHOOL READINESS?
School Readiness is a
public school program, partially funded by the State of Minnesota,
for pre-Kindergarten children. School Readiness takes on a
variety of forms in each school district with all having the goal of
enabling children to enter school with the skills and behaviors
needed for them to progress and flourish. The SR program is designed
around social skills, academic skills, play, pre-kindergarten
basics, fine motor skill development, large motor skill development,
and many other exciting experiences. Because play is a young
child’s “work”, play is an important part of your child’s day.
During play with other students, children learn sharing, creativity,
imagination, development of relationships, and much more. The
Lakeview School Readiness students meet 2 full days each week for 32
weeks.
WHY IS EARLY EDUCATION IMPORTANT?
Research tells us that
high quality early childhood programs or experiences matter and can
positively influence children’s future development.
Scientists say that a child acquires 50% of the intelligence he/she
will eventually have by the time he/she is 4 years old and another
30% by eight.
WHY INVOLVE PARENTS?
Through School
Readiness, parents are considered full partners in their child’s
development and learning…..children need parent involvement!
Research shows that early childhood programs involving both parents
and children are more effective than programs that focus exclusively
on the child! Children whose parents create a home environment
that encourages learning and who are involved in their children’s
education are more successful in school.
