7th Grade Essential Outcomes

  • Writing Standards

    Students will write arguments to support claims in an analysis of different topics or texts, using valid reasoning and sufficient evidence.

    Students will write informative/explanatory texts.

    Students will write narratives and other creative texts to develop real or imagined experiences or events.

    Students will produce clear writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

    Students will use a writing process to develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, drafting, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

    Students will conduct short as well as more sustained research projects.

     

    Reading Standards

    Students will explain what the text says and make inferences from it.

    Students will determine main ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development, and summarize the key supporting details and ideas.

    Students will analyze how and why characters, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

    Students will analyze the structure of texts, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text relate to each other and the whole.

    Students will assess how point of view or purpose shapes the content and style of a text. 

    Students will evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats.

    Students will describe and evaluate the claim in a text.

    Students will analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics.

    Students will read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently.

     

    Speaking/Listening Standards

    Students will participate in a variety of discussions.

    Students will present claims and findings.

     

    Language Standards

    Students will demonstrate understanding of basic English grammar and usage.

    Students will demonstrate basic knowledge of language and conventions.
