Message from the Health Office:

Good Afternoon,

After listening to the weekly call with the Minnesota Department of Health I would like to give you some updated information they provided today.  Due to shortages in the testing supplies, clinics and hospitals are not testing everyone (full details can be found on the link to MDH below).  If you are having mild symptoms and they diagnose you with coronavirus (COVID-19) the course of treatment does not change regardless if you have a laboratory confirmed case

You should follow this information and guidelines taken directly from the MDH website:

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • According to CDC, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:
    • fever
    • cough
    • shortness of breath
  • Some patients have had other symptoms including muscle aches, headache, sore throat, or diarrhea.
  • These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.

How long should I stay home if sick?

If you have symptoms of a respiratory disease (these include fever, coughing, muscle aches, sore throat, and headache), you should stay home for at least 7 days, and for 3 days with no fever and improvement of respiratory symptoms—whichever is longer. (Your fever should be gone for 3 days without using fever-reducing medicine.)

For example, if you have a fever and coughing for 4 days, you need to stay home 3 more days with no fever for a total of 7 days. Or, if you have a fever and coughing for 5 days, you need to stay home 3 more days with no fever for a total of 8 days.

If you are having symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) you should CALL YOUR LOCAL HEALTH CARE TRIAGE NUMBER (listed below) and you will be directed from there (please just do not just show up, UNLESS IT IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY!).

FIRST, Call CCM Health at (320) 269-8877 and ask to speak with the triage nurse.

I know we all are stressed (including our children) with all the changes that are happening surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  I have attached a link from the CDC about talking with your children about it and another link on how to properly clean and disinfect your home.

COVID-19 house cleaning recommendations

Also I have recently came across articles stating that NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, Aleve, Naproxen) are not advised to use when ill with the coronavirus (COVID-19).  If you become ill with the coronavirus always check with your physician first on her/his recommendations.

Lastly, MDH has asked that if you are confirmed to have coronavirus (COVID-19) and are notified by your health care provider please make sure I am aware.  I need to make sure the Minnesota Department of Health is aware of positive cases now that testing is done at other labs in the state.

I will continue to send updates as I receive them from the Minnesota Department of Health.  I understand this a lot of information so if you have questions please reach out to me via phone or email.

Thank you and WASH YOUR HANDS J
